Clinical Coverage Guideline: Short Inpatient Hospital Stays

NOTICE of New Health Plan Policies

The purpose of this letter is to inform you that WellCare of Florida is implementing the following policy for its Medicare line of business. 

  • Short Inpatient Hospital-Stay – CP.MP.182

The new policy addresses authorization requests for admissions that are under two days in duration and will take effect in accordance with the terms of our contractual agreement.  You can obtain a complete copy of this policy under the Clinical Guidelines link found on WellCare’s Provider Portal: https://www.wellcare.com/Florida/Providers/Clinical-Guidelines.

On April 22, 2024, UnitedHealth Group issued a press release, providing an update on the Change Healthcare cybersecurity incident that occurred on Feb. 21, 2024. Given the size of the data impacted, the investigation to determine whose data is impacted is expected to take several months. UnitedHealth Group believes this situation will impact “a substantial proportion of people in America” and is offering immediate credit monitoring and identity protection services, as well as a dedicated contact center to address questions.
