Well Woman Visit

Every woman should have an annual Well Woman Visit.  This visit will be with an obstetrician/gynecologist (OB/GYN) doctor. These are doctors who have had special training in the medical problems that women face. You may not have an OB/GYN. If so, call the customer service number. This number is on the back of your member ID card. Member Services can help you find a doctor.

Your Well Woman Visit is an important visit. We recommend you go prepared with questions. You may have questions about your body or health. During this visit, you or your doctor may want to talk about birth control.

Here is a list of some of the things that your doctor may want to discuss with you during your visit:

  • Contraception
  • Alcohol use
  • Blood pressure check
  • Cholesterol screening
  • Depression screening
  • Nutrition and Diet
  • HIV screening
  • Vaccines and immunizations
  • Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) screening.

If you’re a parent or caregiver, you may soon have to take your daughter to an OB/GYN. These visits typically start around the ages of 13 and 15. This does not mean that your child should to stop going to her Pediatrician. These visits evaluate growth and development. An Well Woman Visit may cover many different topics. You may even want to speak with your daughter’s pediatrician about when your daughter should start seeing an OB/GYN.
